Our thatched cottage is a listed building from 1845. It is located in Schwansen, Northern Germany, a lovely area between the Schlei and the Baltic Sea. Just a short 2km walk from the Schlei, 15 minutes drive from Kappeln, 20 minutes from Eckernförde, and 30mins from Schleswig.
This self-catering accommodation has three bedrooms and can sleep up to 9 people. There are three bedrooms – two doubles, one with an en-suite bathroom, downstairs and one large bedroom with five beds upstairs. Downstairs there’s a large open-plan living/dining/kitchen area with a cosy fireplace (and a guitar).
The kitchen is well equipped with different types of coffee makers (Bialetti and a filter coffee,machine), a fridge and freezer, toaster, kitchen aid mixer, teapot, utensils for baking and all the regular kitchen basics like salt/pepper/oil/tea towels etc for you to use.
We also have all the kit you need for travelling with kids: Stokke high chair (including the infant gear), travel cot, booster seat, children’s kitchen wear, toys, books, pens, Duplo, Lego, board games (for kids and adults) – it’s all here, so you don’t have to bring it!
Outside there is a large wild garden with a big terrace and a pond, with seating for adults and kids. We have swings, a sandpit, a see-saw, kids’ playhouse and an In-ground trampoline (with a protective net). Your kids are welcome to make full use of them – but please supervise them, we can’t take any responsibility for injuries. Please note: the pond is great for wild life watching but not to fish or play in, and the trampoline has a weight restriction of 100kg.
We also have a gas BBQ and a fire pit in the garden for marshmallow roasting.
It’s a paradise for families, design and nature lovers and well-equipped for children!

Designed for modern family living. Treasured as a summer and weekend getaway from the city, we now want to share our country house with you.
The house dates back to 1845 and was originally a farm workers’ cottage with three separate units. It has since been renovated into one larger unit (which we now use ourselves and rent out to guests, and one smaller permanently rented apartment).
We acquired the property in 2019 hoping to transform the interior into a weekend getaway, where we could relax, surrounded by nature and things we loved. We have restored the garden, and the thatched roof and really made the place into a haven for families who love design.
